Martin Steenhaut is one of our well-respected ambassadors and a long-time MrJan Gear-user. As a professional photographer, he has a very good trained eye for special lighting conditions as you can see on his personal page and his website and he loves to share his knowledge of wildlife and nature photography with the people he guides on his trips for Wildpix. As a travel-guide, he is not entering too many competitions but his images are always recognised and often awarded.
This year he was honoured with a golden camera for his entry for the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2019. A wonderful achievement.
I took this photo during a trip to South Africa where I suddenly saw this group of giraffes walking in an incredibly beautiful light situation. As often it was a snapshot because 5 seconds later the light and the atmosphere were completely different again, you have to seize such moments and make such recordings unique. I am very honoured that the jury was so taken by this photo and I am very happy with this impressive award. It puts nature photography in the spotlight and ensures that people reflect on all the beauty that we must preserve on this planet.
